the Update |
July 2/2007:
The GBN has been upgraded to version 1.0.3
Here are the latest major enhancements:
Groups
- GBN now allows for multiple group
memberships so that one animal can belong to many different groups
simultaneously; Built-in groups have been added: 'Kids', 'Breeders',
'Livestock', 'Slaughter'.
Feeding Programs
- Feeding programs can now be given
meaningful names (such as 'Dairy ration') instead of cryptic numbers.
Weights
Most of the weight stages are gone and have
been replaced with the 'birth weight' and 'wean weight'. When you upgrade,
the entries for the birth weight and the 6 week weight will be kept. The
latter will be considered the wean weight. A new field called 'Average Daily
Gain' (ADG) will be calculated from the difference between the two weights
and the wean date.
Breeding Records
- Breeding record entry and management has
been made much more flexible. Unlike earlier versions of GBN where only
the last record could be edited, version 1.0.3 offers the flexibility to
edit or delete any breeding record in any order;
- Breeding-specific notes can now be kept,
maintained and viewed providing for a more complete record of the
breeding in question.
Outside Animals
Outside animal records are entered with the
general owned population to streamline data entry. This applies to purchased
'semen straws' as well. Simply enter the source animal's name, breed, etc as
if you actually had the animal.
Kids
- As before, new kids are given default
names based on their dam and their birth date. However, their initial
record will be moved to the new built-in 'Kids' group and the letter 'K'
will be entered in the 'Sex' field of the new record. To manage your
'kids', select the 'Kids' group from the main interface;
- The old format of 'Unclassed kids' is
gone. When the animal is ready, simply move the kid to one of the new
built-in groups: 'Breeders', 'Livestock' or 'Slaughter'
Important note: Before you
upgrade, please class all your active kid records as breeders to avoid
losing data.
Health Records
- Health record entry and management has
been made much more flexible. Unlike earlier versions of GBN where only
the last record could be edited, version 1.0.3 offers the flexibility to
edit or delete any health record in any order.
- Record-specific notes can now be kept,
maintained and viewed providing for a more complete record of the health
issue in question.
